Covered vs. Uncovered Storage: Which Is Right for You?
When you’re storing a boat, RV, or trailer, one of the first choices is whether to pay for covered storage or go with an uncovered space. Both have a place. Here’s how to think it through.
Uncovered storage
Uncovered storage is an open, gated space for your vehicle.
Good fit if:
- You use your boat or RV often and it won’t sit for long stretches
- Your vehicle is built for the outdoors and you use a quality cover
- You want the most affordable option
Covered storage
Covered storage puts a roof over your vehicle, which helps shield it from direct sun, rain, and falling leaves and debris.
Good fit if:
- Your boat or RV will sit for months at a time
- You want to cut down on sun fading and weather wear on paint, gelcoat, and upholstery
- You’d rather spend less time cleaning before each trip
Other things to weigh
- Height: Make sure your vehicle, including any tower, antenna, or rooftop A/C unit, clears the covered space.
- Access: Check that you can get to your vehicle when you need it. All of our lots offer 24/7 gate access.
- Security: Gated lots with security cameras add peace of mind either way.
